Create an event

Your event will help WRRC us raise the necessary funds to continue to provide service to women and children in our community. Please review our Third-Party Guidelines and submit the Third-Party Proposal document (at the bottom of this page), prior to your event. Approval is required prior to the use of the Women’s Rural Resource Centre name and logo on promotional materials.

Community Event Ideas

Events held by members of the community are key to our success. Each year, business, organizations, individuals and foundations put together events that raise thousands of dollars from the community in support of WRRC.

Why do people host community events?

Community members host events in support of Women’s Rural Resource Centre for many reasons including:

  • Wanting to make a difference
  • Honouring a loved one
  • Paying tribute to a special someone who has passed on
  • Wanting to raise awareness and funds toward violence against women
  • Team-building in the workplace

What kind of event could I host?

Many people automatically think of golf tournaments when they think of fundraising events but there are many other events both big and small that you could organize even during the winter months when the golf courses are not open for business.

Events and Tournaments:

Fashion, dance, curling, tennis, baseball, fishing, darts, billiards, soccer, and the ever-popular golf tournament

A-thons:

Read, dance, knit, swim, bowl, skate, aerobics, bike, skip, walk

(To note – Palasad’s two locations in London hold fundraising Mondays. At a cost of $12/person they offer bowling c/w shoes. Half ($6) is donated to your charity. Why not get a group together for a bowl a-thon night of fun and fundraising.)

Galas/tours:

Black tie dinner, fashion show, garden tour, homes tour, concert, art show, afternoon tea, dinner dance, celebrity luncheon, boat cruise

Why not host a group of people in your home for dinner? Let them know it is a fundraiser and ask if they would be willing to donate an equivalent amount of money that it would have cost them if they had gone out for an evening of fine dining. Donations can be directed to Women’s Rural Resource Centre. You could do this with a group on a regular basis, alternating homes.

Auctions:

Hand made goods, catered meals, services, furniture

Contests:

Talent contest, ‘Deal or No Deal’, watermelon seed spitting, car show, pie eating

Other ideas:

Garage sale, bake sale, head shaving, toonie drive, car wash, pet wash, arts and craft sales, carnivals

In the Workplace:

All of the above in addition to dress down Fridays (or why not try pajama Friday), gift-in-kind drive (your office can donate merchandise and gift certificates for use at Women’s Rural Resource Centre or for use by women setting up new homes)

Spare change drives…have people bring in all that unrolled change
