Brain learned at a young age, the best way to keep mom safe was not to anger his father, so he acted as though nothing was happening, as though he wasn’t being impacted. At times, Brain did indeed release cries and pleas to his father to stop the fighting. Every attempt to get in between mom and dad during an argument was met with distain and danger-so Brain just froze. It took practice for Brain to become numb and go inside his mind and that’s exactly what he learnt to did: he used his imagination to escape the hurting in his real world. Only in his imagination was he able to pretend he was safe. This is how he survived.
