Donating - FAQ's

What donations will the agency accept?

WRRC accepts donations of food, including perishable items, clothing and small household items, such as dishes, small appliances, toys and books.

We regret that we cannot accept donations of appliances, furniture or large household items, as we do not have storage space. If you are willing to hold on to these items for a week or two we are willing to forward your name and phone number along to clients who will call you if they can use the items.

Where can I drop off donations?

We are located at 145 Beech Street in Strathroy. Beech Street runs between Adelaide and McKeller Street, one block south of Metcalfe Street. If facing the building please ring the doorbell at the door located on the right side of the building.

When can I drop off donations?

WRRC prefers to accept donations between the hours of 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM Monday through Friday however if you cannot bring your items during these hours we are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so it is okay to drop them off at any time. You do not need to call ahead of time, but if you can it is appreciated.

Can anyone drop off donations?

Yes, anyone can drop off donations, including men. For security reasons, if you are a man wanting to donate we request, if at all possible, a telephone call ahead of time to alert staff.

How is my money used?

Monies raised are used to provide direct service to women and supports both residential and non-residential programs. Cash donations are used for various items such as groceries for our residential program and assistance in providing transportation for women and children to get to safety.

Do I receive a receipt for income tax purposes?

Cash Donations- An official receipt will be issued to private individuals, corporations or organizations other than churches/service clubs/schools for all cash donations over $10.

In-kind donations - Donations of property other than cash such as land, shares or equipment.  Subject to some restrictions, an official receipt for a donation-in-kind may be issued.  The Executive Director must be informed of these donations and involved in decisions surrounding issuing of receipts in these circumstances, as she is responsible for ensuring that the agency complies with rules and regulations around the agency’s registered charitable status. The WRRC will not issue official receipts for in-kind donations of property that will not be used directly by the agency and valued at less than $500.

Official receipts will not be issued for donations of service (time, skills or effort), as these are not donations of property

Where a gift valued at $1000 or more is made to the agency, the gift’s value must be appraised by someone knowledgeable about the gift and independent of the donor and the agency.  A certificate of appraisal must be issued and this certificate must include the appraiser’s name and address.

Advice on these donations may be sought from the agency’s auditor at any point. If you would like further information on in-kind donations please feel free to contact the agency at 246-1526

How will my donation be recognized?

Donor Recognition Plan
We want to remain flexible to the individual needs of donors to the WRRC in terms of the recognition of charitable gifts. The following recognition methods should serve as guidelines for recognizing donations. Donors are encouraged to discuss their individual needs, likes and dislikes in terms of recognition, with WRRC staff and volunteers. Every effort will be made to recognize gifts in a way that is both meaningful to the donor and the agency, while remaining within set budgetary guidelines.
